Ingredients:
1 (10 pound) while turkey, giblets removed
4 cloves crushed garlic
2 tablespoons seasoning salt
1/2 cup butter
2 cans (12 ounces each) cola-flavored carbonated
soda
1 large apple, cut into quarters
1 large onion, quartered
1 tablespoon each: salt, pepper and garlic powder
Instructions:
1. Per manufacturer’s instructions, preheat the smoker to
240 degrees. Rinse the turkey with cold water; pat
dry.
2. Rub the garlic completely over the outside of the
bird; sprinkle with the seasoned salt. Place the turkey
in a disposable pan that will fit inside the smoker.
3. Fill the cavity of the turkey with the remaining
ingredients; cover loosely with foil.
4. Smoke at 240 degrees for 10 hours, or until the
internal temperature of the bird reaches 180 degrees;
check after 6 hours because smoker temperatures
vary. Be sure to check the temperature of the bird by
placing the thermometer into the thickest part of the
thigh.
5. When the temperature is reached, remove the turkey
from the smoker, keep covered and let rest for 30
minutes before carving.
Note: To keep the turkey moist, baste with the pan juices
every 2 hours.
